That the parallels of Iraq to Viet Nam may be mudsliding into an even more dangerous parallel with the Spanish Civil War and Post-Soviet Afghanistan where multi-country / ideological and/or religious warfare focuses for decades may be unavoidable is a tribute to the foolhardiness and naivete of Bush and his neo-con cronies: "We're creating an American democracy to serve as a model for the Arab States! They will lay flowers at our feet and serve us feasts as we ride into Baghdad." Uh, no fucking way. There's something called HISTORY that these fruitcakes should have consulted. Seems like the British tried something similar, and if the late 19th / early 20th C is too remote a timeframe, they could have studied the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. (We're not out of the woods there, yet either! It would have been nice to focus on a ten year plan in Afghanistan - we're almost halfway there - and avoided major conflicts elsewhere, but no Bush & Halliburton were hellbent on aggression in the Middle East. Stupid benighted fuckers.

So, I figure 10 more years of 100B per year in Iraq or major regional warfare for who knows how long. Probably we'll get the latter. Fire up the alternate energy sources and Thank You, Mr Bush.

Meanwhile, the government can't even manage this country in a mediocre fashion.
